Possible suspect played it cool at collision scene

Elk Valley RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a Good Samaritan who stopped to assist at a car accident that occurred on the evening of ‘Hot Dog Days’ in Fernie on Wednesday April 6.

On April 6, at approximately 8:45 p.m., Elk Valley RCMP received a call for a motor vehicle incident at the intersection of Highway 3 (Crowsnest Highway) and Fernie Ski Hill Road. A red 2011 Hyundai Tuscon left the travelled portion of the Fernie Ski Hill road and entered the right-hand ditch while travelling down toward the highway junction.

The driver of this vehicle, a young caucasian male wearing a blue ‘hoodie’ and possibly a headband, was assisted by the original complainant who stopped to assist.

This original complainant departed the scene after calling 911, as a second motorist had stopped and took over from the original caller.

Elk Valley RCMP is seeking to identify this second motorist who remained on scene and assisted the driver. On police arrival at the scene the driver of the vehicle was no longer with the car. It is believed that the man was given a ride. Elk Valley RCMP was later advised that the red Hyundai Tuscon had been stolen that evening by an unknown person and is seeking to identify the driver as a person of interest.

If you have information that could assist the RCMP, or if you are the second motorist who attended this scene to assist, please contact the Elk Valley RCMP at 250-425-6233.
