Senior’s facility gets city approval

City of Cranbrook council last night approved an official community plan (OCP) amendment and rezoning application that will allow for the development of a senior’s living community.

OCP Amendment Bylaw No. 3888 and Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 3889, covering a currently empty 2.23-acre property at 620 and 616 Kootenay Street North, were the focus of a public hearing held prior to council’s vote, with no one in attendance speaking to either bylaw.

The OCP amendment changes the land use designation of the property from ‘Highway Corridor Commercial’ to ‘High Density Residential’ and the rezoning is to R-6 High Density Multiple Family Residential Zone from R-8 Mobile Home Park Residential Zone.

Council voted unanimously to pass third reading and approve the two bylaws.

The proposed Golden Life (0945766 BC Ltd.) senior’s facility would offer residential care, as well as independent living, and assisted living with a range of services.

Golden Life also operates Joseph Creek Village in Cranbrook.
