Two suspected arsons under investigation

Cranbrook RCMP is currently investigating two suspicious vehicle fires within the span of a week.

On March 7, Cranbrook RCMP was called to the Gold Creek area for a vehicle that had been burnt. RCMP attended approximately 10 kilometres out of town and located the burned out truck. The owner was also on scene and he advised that his truck had gotten stuck and when he came out to retrieve it, it was already burned.

Cranbrook Forensic Identification Section attended the scene and conducted an investigation of the truck and area. This investigation is still ongoing, reported Cst. Katie Forgeron of Cranbrook RCMP

On March 9, RCMP was again called to a suspicious vehicle fire in the 21st Avenue area. On arrival it was noted there was damage to the bed of the pickup truck. The fire had already been extinguished.

Several residents in the area recall hearing a loud bang but did not see anything. The Cranbrook Forensic Identification Section also attended this scene and located items suggesting this fire could have been intentionally set, Forgeron said.

Cranbrook RCMP continues to investigate both fires. Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to contact the Cranbrook RCMP at 250-489-3471.
