Snowfall and storm warning for region

A snowfall warning is in effect for two-thirds of the East Kootenay including the Columbia Valley and Cranbrook/Kimberley areas. Snowfall, with total amounts of 10 to 20 cm is expected, reports Environment Canada.

This all comes on top of the winter storm warning already issued for the Elk Valley.

A Pacific front is spreading snow to Columbia and Kootenay regions. Snow over the East Columbia and East Kootenay regions will continue today and tonight with additional accumulations of 10 to 20 cm by Friday morning.

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.

Hazardous winter conditions are expected for the Elk Valley where heavier volumes of snow are expected.

The snow will continue today and tonight resulting in further accumulations of 15 to 30 cm. Higher amounts are possible for the mountain passes. The snow will ease overnight as the frontal system weakens, Environment Canada reported.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports to #BCStorm.
