Kimberley Search and Rescue is fully operational and insured, contrary to the report published by the Kimberley Bulletin on February 12.

Emergency Management British Columbia has reviewed all documentation and continues to recognize the Kimberley Search and Rescue Team, created from the Kimberley Fire Department in 1999, as the only recognized team in Kimberley and surrounding area. The Society Board of Directors has been diligent and are in the final stages of restoration, registered under a new name as another group reserved the original name.

The City of Kimberley has been informed by Emergency Management BC that we are the only recognized team thus dispelling any confusion or misunderstanding.

Kimberley Search and Rescue is very appreciative for the ongoing support from the City of Kimberley and the Kimberley Fire Department. The city provides bays for our equipment and we practice in the Fire Hall on Monday nights. Currently we are instructing new members for their Ground Search and Rescue Course.

Kimberley Search and Rescue regularly practice and respond with teams in the East Kootenay and has developed strong working relationships with the RCMP and other tasking agencies. We have team members who volunteer time provincially and nationally within Search and Rescue. Our sole purpose is to be response ready when called out, whether it is in our 10,000 square kilometre territory or providing mutual aid with other search teams.
