Notes from City Hall
Kimberley and Marysville Water Line Flushing
In order to ensure safe drinking water and maintain the Water Distribution System, the City of Kimberley annually flushes water lines in the community using city fire hydrants. The city will be flushing hydrants throughout the community beginning in Townsite (Lois Creek area) and moving through the entire system.
Residents may notice discolouration in the water during this process. Please note that this is not a public health concern. The city monitors the quality of the water during this process. Flushing and maintenance operations will be underway during the next several weeks. In the event that cloudy water is experienced, turn on an outside tap (preferred) or your bathtub faucet and run until the water clears up. For further information please contact the Operations & Environment Services Department at 250-427-9660.
Catch basins
As winter approaches, the city is asking homeowners to help keep catch basins clear by not sweeping leaves from your property onto the streets. We appreciate your assistance in helping to keep the catch basins clear and ready to handle any precipitation. If you see a catch basin that is clogged or full of debris and cannot clear it, please call the Operations Department at 250-427-9660 and we will send someone to take care of it. Thank you for your cooperation.
On – Street Parking
As we are preparing for the winter season, all trailers and vehicles from on-street parking should have been removed by October 15. This includes all travel, recreational, and utility trailers. Any containers or recreational trailers without a Street Occupancy Permit that are not moved before October 31 could be subject to towing and/or fines.
No Unauthorized Vehicles in the Platzl
Please be reminded that the Platzl is for pedestrian use only. There is no motor vehicle access permitted unless authorized by the City of Kimberley.
Inter-community Business Licenses
The city is continuing its efforts to ensure Kimberley is a good place to be doing business. At the October 24 Regular Meeting of Council the ‘Kimberley Investment Incentive Program Bylaw No. 2558, 2016’ and the ‘City of Kimberley Inter-Community Business License Bylaw No. 2552, 2016’ will be considered for adoption.
The Investment Incentive Program encourages commercial investment by providing temporary relief from an increase in municipal taxes that results from improvements to commercial, industrial, and brownfield properties. The Mobile Business License allows mobile businesses to operate in both municipalities without having to apply for businesses licenses from both municipalities.
