Family Fishing Derby this Monday

“Remember, it’s all about the kids.”

Founder Shane Westle is looking forward to the return of the Family Fishing Derby at Horseshoe Lake (off the Fort Steele – Wardner Road) and he reminds folks that the event is all about raising funds to supply emergency aid for children fighting cancer.

FamFishDerThe derby was called off last year because of poor ice conditions on the lake but thanks to a ‘normal’ winter this year, the popular family event is returning Monday, Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with help from Canadian Cancer Society and B.C. Friends of Children.

A wealth of prizes awaits participants including the first prize of a 12-foot Lund boat and trailer donated by Fabrite Services.

The first prize for children is a massive 55” 3-D Samsung tv with a five-year warranty and Playstation donated by Caliper Machine.

Along with ice fishing, the event will feature women’s ski jumping, best dressed dog contest, best decorated toboggan contest; toboggan races and lots more.
