Golf tourney cancelled

It is with much regret that East Kootenay Foundation for Health and Kootenay Savings Credit Union have made the difficult, but necessary, decision to cancel the 5th annual Celebrating Health Care Golf Tournament, planned for Saturday, August 25 at the Copper Point Golf Course.

Due to a number of factors, players’ registrations are down considerably this year and with just over a week away a decision to cancel was paramount.  Even with the very generous support of many hole-in-ones, closest to the pin, hole and cart sponsors the organizing committee felt it was not feasible to move forward with the event with such a low number of players.

This is a huge disappointment, as the tournament over the past several years has been one of the major fundraising events supporting the Invermere & District Hospital and would have this year supported the A Clear View ~ digital mammography campaign. Over the tournament’s past four years, golfers, sponsors and supporters have helped raised over $88,000 towards the Invermere District Hospital emergency and pediatric departments!

Sponsors and those who generously donated financially or items for auction or prizes will be contacted shortly by Donna Grainger so determination can be made as to how the donor wishes to proceed.

Copper Point Golf Course will be contacting those players who have already signed up to make the necessary arrangements for the return of their registration fees.

In the meantime, the foundation and KSCU will continue to work towards the betterment of health care both in the Columbia Valley and at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital, and will explore alternative options for another potential event.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding and support through this difficult decision.
