The Western Hockey League (WHL) announced today that Wyatt Hoflin of the Kootenay ICE is the WHL nominee for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award.

Hoflin, a 1995-born netminder from Spruce Grove, Alta., registered a 1.00 goals against average and a .968 save percentage, including one shutout, while winning all three of his starts this past week.

On Tuesday, February 17, Hoflin turned aside 17 shots to earn a 5-2 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
On Friday, February 20, he stopped 46 of 47 shots against the Edmonton Oil Kings in a 4-1 victory, while claiming first star honours.

The following night, Hoflin turned aside all 29 shots he faced to lift the ICE to a 5-0 shutout against the Spokane Chiefs and again earned first star honours.

Currently in his third campaign in the WHL, Hoflin has posted a 41-41-1-2 record with three shutouts in 98 career WHL regular season appearances.

The ICE are currently in sixth place in the WHL’s Eastern Conference standings.

Jaedon Descheneau is 10th in league scoring with 27 goals and 44 assists for 71 points in 58 games. Teammate Luke Philp is 16th in league scoring with 26 goals and 41 assists.

The ICE are on an eastern road swing this week, with an important game tomorrow night in Swift Current against the Broncos, trailing the ICE by a point in the standings. The next night in Regina they take on the fourth place Pats. The ICE finish off the trip with back-to-back games against the powerful Brandon Wheat Kings, firmly perched atop the Eastern Conference standings.

The ICE’s next appearance at Cranbrook’s Western Financial Place is Friday, March 6 when the Red Deer Rebels are in town.
