ICE acquire forward from Hurricanes

The Kootenay ICE sent a seventh round pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft to the Lethbridge Hurricanes for 18-year-old left wing Johnny Wesley today.

ICE General Manager Jeff Chynoweth said the club acquired the 6’, 194 lb. White Rock product to bolster depth up front.

“With the number of players currently sidelined with injuries, it was crucial that we add some healthy bodies to our line-up. Johnny adds WHL experience and potential to our line up and will get an opportunity to make an impact right away,” added Chynoweth.

The trade follows on the heels of a 9-0 pounding at the hands of the Hurricanes last night in Lethbridge.

Wesley has spent the 2015-16 season as captain of the Surrey Eagles of the BCHL, where he recorded a team-leading 20 points (11-9-20) in 18 games played.

Including long-term injuries, the ICE now carry 25 players (two goaltenders, nine defensemen and 14 forwards).

The ICE’s on-ice struggles continue a little over one-third of the way into the 2015/16 WHL season, as they currently sit last in the Eastern Conference with six wins, 18 losses and two overtime losses. The club is the second lowest scoring team in the league and the most defensively porous with 107 goals against in 26 games.

The ICE will try to get back on track when they take on the Hurricanes at Western Financial Place tomorrow night (Nov. 28).
