ICE acquire veteran defenseman from Hurricanes
Kootenay ICE general manager Jeff Chynoweth today announced the Western Hockey League club has acquired 19-year-old defenseman Lenny Hackman from the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for a 12th round pick in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.
“Our goal heading into the WHL Trade Deadline was to add depth to our defense corps and we are happy to add a player with Lenny Hackman’s experience and work ethic to our lineup. He is an excellent skater who we are anticipating will play some key minutes on our blue line,” described Chynoweth.
Hackman was a ninth round selection (179th Overall) in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft and is in his third season with the Hurricanes. Hackman will join the ICE at practice today (Jan. 8).
As a result of today’s transaction the ICE are now carrying 24 players, including two goaltenders, nine defenseman and 13 forwards.
Airdrie, Alta. resident Hackman was born January 30, 1995. The 5’9”, 185 lb. rearguard is a left shot. In 31 games so far this season he has one goal and two assists.
