ICE retool sales and PR

Jeff Chynoweth, General Manager of the Kootenay ICE, August 6 announced the club has hired Chris Wahl as the new Director of Sales & Public Relations.

Wahl replaces Kaytee Wheaton who resigned last month to take a position with Royal LePage East Kootenay Realty.

The ICE also announced the return of long-term employee Don MacMillan as a Sales Consultant. MacMillan first worked for the club from 1998-2008.

“We feel very fortunate to add two quality people to our organization in such important areas (sales and public relations). There is a lot of work yet to be done before the regular season starts in September, but I am confident that between Chris and Don we will not take a step backwards and will keep the ICE in the forefront of the Cranbrook and East Kootenay business community,” said Chynoweth.

“I am very excited to come back to the East Kootenay,” said Wahl, who spent more than a decade living in Cranbrook as a child. “The chance to work with the team I grew up watching is a real privilege and I cannot thank the organization enough for the opportunity.”

Wahl joins the ICE after spending the past three seasons managing a variety of broadcast, sales, communications and marketing roles in the British Columbia Hockey League with the Trail Smoke Eaters (2011-2013) and Surrey Eagles (2013-2014). Wahl will be responsible for executing corporate sales agreements as well as building on the club’s foundation of communication strategies, both through traditional and new media.

Chris is a 29-year-old resident of North Vancouver. He will begin his duties with the ICE on August 11.

Don MacMillan returns to the ICE in a part-time position (currently employed by the City of Cranbrook as a Bylaw Officer) and will work with Chris in helping foster existing and new business partnerships.

Don is well known throughout the Cranbrook community and has worked with a number of service groups in helping organize very successful charitable events, including serving on the board for the East Kootenay Foundation for Health.
