Kootenay Freestyle Classic grows forward

By Dave McGrath

About 60 competitors took place in the Kootenay Freestyle Classic (KFC) on March 15-16 at Panorama Mountain Village.

Participants in the two-day event came from the Columbia Valley and from all over Alberta and southeastern B.C. – taking part in Saturday Slopestyle and a Sunday Mogul Competition.

Competitors came from Fernie Freestyle, Castle Freestyle, Winsport Calgary, Bow Valley Freestyle, Team Panorama, Windermere Valley Ski Club, a few independents and the Panorama Mountain Freeride Club.

Everyone had a fantastic time in the two events, which was far less a competition than a celebration of skiing and mountain culture. Everyone went home with a huge smile on their faces and that’s the true measure of a successful KFC!

Huge thanks goes out to everyone who sponsored the event and to Panorama for their support in our program and for building fantastic facilities. With all of the success for Canadians in freestyle skiing in the Olympics and a natural movement toward sports like Slopestyle, we are hoping to grow our programming next year and to hold and even bigger and better KFC!
