Nitros KIJHL champions
The Kimberley Dynamiters have defeated the Kamloops Storm in six games to claim the title as Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) champions for 2014-15.
The Dynamiters yesterday powered past the Storm 5-1 to claim Kimberley’s first league title in 35 years.
The Eddie Mountain Division club rode the talents of league scoring champ Jason Richter, who opened the scoring, and all-star defender Jordan Busch, who scored the winning goal early in the second period to claim the title and earn a place in the Cyclone Taylor Cup, starting Friday in Mission.
The Dynamiters opened the best of seven finals with two home ice victories (3-2 and 6-3) before dropping the next two games in Kamloops (3-2 in overtime and 4-0). Game five in Kimberley saw the Nitros win 3-2 in overtime before heading back to Kamloops for the league title victory.
