Nordic ski demo day a hit

By Chris Newel

CN skisbootsWhile many are waiting for clear pavement and dreaming of getting their bikes out, the Kimberley Nordic Trails still have lots of life left.

With the lack of snow and unseasonably warmer temperatures it certainly does not appear to be conducive to great skiing, but that is not the case.

The club has been able to maintain the trails and the recent snowfall along with expert grooming has made for some excellent spring skiing. The trails are in great shape with a firm base and will likely hold for weeks to come.

With that, Chris Bloch-Hansen, a KNC Trail Attendant, in conjunction with Gerick Sports, Salomon Skis and Kimberley Nordic Club organized a ski demo day for Saturday, March 7.

Phil Villeneuve, sales representative for Salomon Skis and National Team Tech Support Person along with Chris were on site setting skiers up with both classic and skate skis to demo.

Members of the KNC Masters program provided instructions to Cross Country newbies and those trying skate skiing for the first time.

The day was very popular with a number of experienced and new skiers lining up to try out not only the new gear but also get out on the trails in the beautiful sunshine.
