Snow Golf Tourney tees off Feb. 7
It is not uncommon for the golf season to begin earlier in the Columbia Valley than elsewhere in the East Kootenay.
But this is getting the jump on things.
The 14th annual Snow Golf Tournament returns to the ice of Lake Windermere’s Taynton Bay on Feb. 7, with golfers making their way around an 18-hole course shaped on the lake.
Each year brings different conditions.
During the first Snow Golf Tourney in 2002, winter conditions were such that the ice was clear of snow, making for wildly tricky driving conditions and insanely loooong drives. In other years the snow has been thigh-deep; the snow has fallen heavily and winds can blow hard; but one constant about this fun tournament is the colour and character of the four-person teams vying for the coveted title of Snow Golf champs.
Registration for the tourney begins at 11 a.m. at the Station Neighborhood Pub and the scramble format tourney begins at noon with a shotgun start.
Following the day’s play, tourney participants gather in the Station for the announcement of winners and prize draws courtesy the Kinsmen Club of Windermere Valley.
