Elk Watershed Discovery Camp a success

The Elk River Alliance (ERA) is pleased to announce the success of the Elk Watershed Discovery Camps based in Fernie this summer.

These two week-long day camps were delivered by ERA in partnership with the College of the Rockies. The camps gave Elk Valley youth (9-14) an opportunity to explore their watershed on foot, raft, bike and canoe, while participating in fun, hands-on and educational activities. Participants enjoyed developing new skills and learning from local professionals, including geologists, engineers, raft guides, fishers, water managers and more.

ERA would like to thank the sponsors, participants and guests who contributed to making the second year of Elk Watershed Discovery Camp such a great success! Our key funders Teck Coal and the Columbia Basin Trust provided camp funding and subsidies to ensure equal opportunity for all interested participants.

To register your child for the Elk Watershed Discovery Camp 2015, visit the College of the Rockies Fernie campus. Next year’s camps will be July 27-31 and August 10-14. Cost of camp is $200 for the whole week with subsidies available if needed.

The Elk River Alliance is a community-based water group that aims to connect people to the Elk River ensuring it is drinkable, fishable and swimmable for future generations. For more information please see www.elkriveralliance.ca or contact [email protected].
