Dear Time
By Niels Kunze
Dear Time,
Long have you been the superlative conformist, and
an endurance athlete,
marching inexorably onward… despite all obstacles,
determined to follow the path laid out for you.
Long ago, so I have heard,
the Mayans whispered āRebellion!ā
in your ear, and
you found it easy to ignore… at first.
Now I feel your restlessness
as you hurry on your way–
as do we all–
toward death / transformation.
Wise Ones have told me that you walk in circles,
continually bumping into your own backside,
mistaking your forgotten self
for a total stranger… at every encounter.
Stop.
Look around.
Look up. Look down.
The singular track is misleading…
for it never arrives… anywhere.
āHello! Time, where are you NOW?ā
And all you do is point, and
hurry onward.
Rebel! Leap upward!
Walk above yourself
for once… forevermore.
Let go of nostalgia… what new dreams may come?
All you have been is a ādoingā…
Now all you have to do is just be.
I canāt believe in your kind of eternity, if you canāt believe in me.
I know that you donāt know what exactly I mean,
but thatās the Endless Mystery,
outside the bounds of your tight little circle…
a truer, warmer eternity.
