“Clay”
1966 – 2018Clayton Murrell was tragically taken from his family and friends on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 51 years of age.Clay was born on December 2, 1966 in Cranbrook, BC. He joined the Cranbrook fire department on April 21, 1990. Clay rose through the ranks and at the time of his passing was the Captain on B shift. Clayton’s professional accomplishments included past secretary, vice president and president of local 1253. He represented the East and West Kootenay regions as VP of the BCPFFA (BC Professional Fire Fighters Association).Clayton was the Vice President of the Pine Ridge Roping Club. He had an immense passion for roping which he and Joan spent every waking moment doing together. Clay loved spending time at the family cabin, sitting around the campfire singing and playing his guitar.Clay and Joan were married on October 6, 2005. It was evident the love they had for each other.

Clay was known for his infectious smile, signature mustache and teasing. He loved to tease anybody he knew.

Clay was very caring, kind, non-judgemental and strong. He was “the rock” of his family and friends. His humble nature made him even more special. He had that “we can do better” positive outlook.

Clay is survived by his children who he absolutely loved and was so proud of, Dysen and Kirsten, (Brandon and Brayden), his stepchildren Aaron (Hayley) and Andrew (Tasha) and was a loving Papa to Shaide, Aubrey, Grady and Felix. Clayton is also survived by his mother Dorothy Murrell-Ward, his brothers Ted Murrell (Kathy) and their children Justin and Kristen, his sister Colette Collinson (Al) and their children Tyler and Parker, stepbrothers Ben (Jane), Bud (Leigh) and their children Caleb, Chelsey and Charlie.

Clayton was predeceased by his father Rodney Murrell and his step-father Don Ward.

Clay and the love of his life Joan were eternally joined on Wednesday, February 7, 2018.

The joint celebration of life for Clay and Joan will be held at Western Financial Place, Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be forwarded to the: BC Burn Fund or the Pine Ridge Roping Club.
