Predeceased by her beloved husband Stanislaw Sokol, parents Maud and Sydney Smith and brother Edmund Smith.  Forever remembered by children Roman Sokol (Susan) and Donna (Sokol) Thorner (Jim Thorner).  Loved by grandchildren Leslee-Anne (Sokol) Nakasuji (Shun Nakasuji), Keith Sokol (Alicia Pretty), Dr. Kyle Sokol (Sandi Sokol), Christopher Van Rompaey (Kristyn Arruda), Nicole Van Rompaey (Cody Nickle) and Lorraine (Jones) Henderson (Sonny Reno).  Cherished great-grandmother to Oliver, Canaan, James and David.

Barb always had a smile and a love of life and adventure.  During the war she joined the WAAF and worked in photographic intelligence reconnaissance.  She moved to Canada after the war with her husband and settled in Sarnia, Ontario where she lived for the next 67 years.  For 10 years she managed Oban Golf Course which they built together.  In 2015 she moved to BC to live with Donna and enjoyed many camping and touring adventures.  She loved all animals particularly her cats, road trips and trains.

Cremation has taken place and she will go on one last road trip back to Ontario where her life will be celebrated, and she will be with her beloved husband again.

Mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Sarnia at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 5th. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery in Sarnia. All are invited to the Polish Hall at 3:00 PM for a reception to celebrate her life with us. Donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to Toronto Humane Society, IFAW, Canadian Wildlife Federation or SPCA Montreal.

Heartfelt thanks go out to Dr. M. Stuckey, the staff at Elk Valley Hospital, paramedics and the first responders from the Baynes Lake Fire Department, special thanks to Bonnie Kari who held her hand in the ambulance and Marie Cosens who was there for me when I needed it most!
