Obituary for Guido Gri

Guido Gri

May 26, 1930 – June 9, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Guido Gri on June 9th at the Green Home in Cranbrook, BC.

Guido was born on May 26th, 1930 in Valvasone, Udine, Italy and immigrated to Canada in the early fifties, landing in Halifax before making the journey across Canada to settle in Cranbrook, BC. He met and married Verna in September of 1965. Shortly after arriving in Cranbrook Guido began working for the local sawmill, where he worked for many years as a millwright before retiring to spend more time doing what he loved; gardening, bowling, bocce, camping, fishing, and making wine. He was also known for his love of cooking, particularly his wonderful spaghetti.

Guido is survived by children Chris Doering, Penny Heagy (Robin) and Angela Hills, as well as his many grandchildren; Sierra, Jesse, Dakota, Dylan, Justin, Jolene, Cindy, Jennifer, Charissa and Nathan as well as eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He also leaves to grieve his sister Antonietta Rovere of Italy and brother Noe Gri of Vancouver, along with many nieces and nephews both in Canada and Italy.

Guido is predeceased by his wife Verna, parents Angelo and Angela Gri, brothers David, Nello and Pietro Gri and his sister Maria Bertoia.

The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and health care professionals at the Green Home and the Cranbrook Hospital for taking exceptional care of Guido during the past several years. A special thank you also to niece Pam Catsirelis and husband Peter for the many hours of assistance they provided for Guido and Verna.

The funeral service for Guido will be held at the MacPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook on Monday, June 17 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations are made to the charity of your choice.
