Joan ROBERTSON

January 16, 1931 ~ August 24, 2020 (age 89)

It is with profound sadness that the family of Lillian “Joan” Robertson announce her peaceful passing on Monday, August 24, 2020 at the age of 89. Joan was born January 16, 1931 in Saskatoon, SK. She married James William Robertson in 1953 in Powell River, BC.

Joan was predeceased by her loving husband Jim in 2010, brothers Garth and Doug Hamilton and grandson Cory Payne. She was also predeceased by her parents, Jeannette and Roy Hamilton. Joan will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Debra Joseph (Brad), sons Ross Robertson (Lynda) and Glenn Robertson (Karen) and sister-in-law Irene Hamilton as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the many friends whose lives she touched along the way.

Joan was a tiny lady with a huge heart, an infectious smile, the determination of a bull and the patience of a saint. She was afflicted with polio at a very young age which left her with a permanent physical disability. She accepted this challenge head on. It did not stop her from living her life to the fullest. Joan took immense pride in their home and impeccable gardens, and her amazing sewing and knitting skills provided family and friends with numerous handmade gifts. She enjoyed creating ceramic masterpieces and also square dancing with “Daddy” (her pet name for Jim). She was never still!

Joan moved from Campbell River, BC in the summer of 2017 to reside at Rocky Mountain Village in Fernie, where she would be close to her daughter Deb and son-in-law Brad.

We would like to thank those at The Village who provided loving care to mom the past 3 years. To Dianne Caldwell, Betty Schianni, Iris Warner and Deb Fedorek, thank you for your special friendship. You truly brightened Mom’s days.

A very heartfelt thank you to Dr. Soetaert and staff for Mom’s care and compassion to our family. Mom always commented “He is quite the guy”, and she looked forward to your next visit.

No formal service will be held as requested by Joan.

A wife, a mother, a grandma too,

This is the legacy we have from you.

You taught us love and how to fight,

You gave us strength, you gave us might.

A stronger person would be hard to find,

And in your heart, you were always kind.

You fought for us all in one way or another,

Not just as a wife not just as a mother.

For all of us you gave your best,

Now the time has come for you to rest.

So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep,
