MORRISON, KENNETH JOHN (MUSHY)

AUGUST 22, 1928 – DECEMBER 24, 2019

The Wind Beneath our Sails.  It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye (for now) to our beloved Ken Morrison.

Husband, Father, Father-in-Law, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Friend.  Kenneth, Ken, Kenny, Mush, Mushy – it did not matter what you called him – all that knew him called him a great guy.

We will miss him dearly.

Ken was born on August 22, 1928 in Kimberley, BC and passed away on December 24, 2019 at The Pines in Kimberley, BC.  Ken is predeceased by his wife, Eleanor Dolina Morrison and his brothers and sisters, Angus, Murdo (Alba), Kay (Ev Price) and Nancy (Fred Leggett).

During a time in Vancouver while apprenticing to be an electrician, he met the love of his life – Eleanor Jack.  Shortly after that fateful day on Second Beach they were married, moved to Kimberley and raised three children, Susan (Doug Nicholson), Peggy (Dale Krushel) and Peter Morrison.

Ken worked for many years at Cominco’s Sullivan Mine and Concentrator.  When he left Cominco he worked as an electrical contractor travelling throughout Canada and the US.  He was actively involved with his local chapter of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) where he held various positions including Shop Steward.  He spent the remaining part of his working career closer to home doing odd jobs (generously) helping neighbours and friends.

Always a hard working man he liked to keep busy whether that was at his electrical trade or working with a shovel in hand tilling the rocky soil in one of his prized vegetable/flower garden plots.

Ken and Eleanor bought a five acre parcel of land near Premier Lake along Sheep Creek.  In true Mushy”get-it-done” style he made arrangements to purchase the old Kimberley Curling Club building and moved it to the readied creekside foundation where it continues to be fondly referred to as “The Cabin”.

The Cabin at Sheep Creek was Ken’s most favourite spot in the world and the Morrison family spent many weekends and holidays there.  It was a welcoming place for many gatherings and the family and extended family have fond memories of lots of card games, large bonfires, pot luck dinners, camping, lawn darts an bocci parties.

Ken and Eleanors’ love for the peace and quite and serene setting found them moving from Kimberley, building a house near the Cabin and setting up residence with a post office box in Skookumchuck, BC.

Ken would tell you he had a good life.  He family would tell he was a kind, devoted family man.  Those who knew him could tell that he prized his family above all.  Doug and Susan Nicholson blessed him with two grandsons, Nathan (Rebecca) and Brent (Kara) who in turn, thus far, have blessed him with three great grandchildren, Deegan, Davin and Atlee Nicholson.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of The Pines for their care and dedication show to their one and only beloved Ken Morrison.
