Obituary of Barbara Ann Stone

BARBARA ANN STONE (MCARTHUR)

JULY 25, 1942 – APRIL 3, 2021

At 1:20 pm on Saturday, April 3rd, 2021 Barbara Stone passed away surrounded by her children, grandchildren, sister Arlene and brother-in-law Terry.  Barb spent the morning visiting with family and with beautiful music she requested playing in the background.  Barbara passed away peacefully holding her daughter Brenda’s hand.

Barbara had decided years ago that she would write her own obituary and after many re-writes she left it with us to share. . .

Obituary by Barbara Stone

I have left my worldly life, by choice, to meet up with Wayne and family to carry on with my next journey.

Born in Kimberley, I graduated Selkirk High School in 1960 and began working for May Slade, Kimberley Daily Bulletin.

Wayne and I moved to Cranbrook in 1967 before venturing to the Coast, living in North Delta from 1973 to 2000.

The East Kootenays called us back and we built our dream home at Moyie Lake in the Village where we resided until present day.

Family, friends, reading, gardening, quilting, volunteering, laughing and white wine were my joys.

Wayne departed unexpectedly on December 20, 2020.

I leave behind my son Blair, wife Karena, grandchildren Joshua and Kristina from Port Coquitlam and my daughter Brenda, spouse Kerry and grand-daughter Sarah of White Rock.

I also leave a large extended family including my brother Robert “Dexter” McArthur, his wife Joann of Kimberley and three sisters; Arlene Staples and husband Terry of Cranbrook; Nancy McArthur (Billy) of Horne Lake, Vancouver Island and Debra Gilmour (Peter) of Kimberley.  Nieces Jacqueline Jean, Jean Ann, Delayne, Raegen, Dayna, Kathleen and Amy. Nephews Danny, Paul, Gray, Brad and Shaun, Great Nieces and Nephews, and very special brothers-in-law Leon Pommier and David Zevich.

With a smile and a promise that we would party instead of cry, Barbara left this world her own way, beautifully dressed, lipstick on, nails and toes freshly painted with final words “I love you all”.

“Wasn’t that a party!”  Cheers and love to our mom, our Nana, our Aunt and our Friend!

If friends desire, memorial donations may be made in memory of Barbara to the Palliative Care Unit, c/o East Kootenay Foundation for Health – 13 – 24th Ave. S., Cranbrook, BC  V1C 3H9.

Some people have a special light

around them from the day they are born . . .

It shines brightly and makes them stand

out in a crowd.  You are

one of those people!

Your heart is always open, ready to share

or just listen to those in need.

Your arms are always ready with a hug

and a reminder that God has a plan.

Thank you for the inspiration

you are and for the bright light

that shines as you.

You are a shining star!
