Obituary of Frances Evelyn Dilts

Frances Evelyn Dilts

 (1933-2020)

Frances Dilts, known to friends as “Fran”, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at the young age of 86.

Born and raised in Cranbrook, B.C., Fran loved nothing more than family and simple mountain living. A devoted wife of 50 years to Alfred “Buzzy” Dilts, Fran was a professional homemaker and fulltime son-wrangler of their two boys, Marvin and Randy.

True to her Italian roots, Fran’s primary love language was food. Be it a holiday or an afternoon visit, best come hungry to Fran’s house as she’d always have a five-course meal waiting when you arrived. Her generosity was only rivalled by her selflessness, wanting the best for everyone else and nothing for herself – her martyrdom was stuff of legend.

A fiercely determined woman with a strong rebellious streak, Fran was never afraid to speak her mind or challenge authority. Genuine to a fault, you always knew where you stood with her as she wasn’t a fan of “bull”. She also played a mean game of cribbage and hated cheaters.

Later in life Fran enjoyed fraternizing with the locals, was passionate about live music, adored Scottish men in kilts, and may have single-handedly supported the entire scratch ‘n win industry.

A small woman with a big fiery spirit, we will miss her waist-high hugs, generous hospitality, and unfiltered humor. Once the bruises fade, we may even miss her brandishing the dreaded wooden spoon (despite her petit stature the woman had a solid backhand).

Fran was predeceased by her loving husband Buzzy, her brothers and sisters, and grandson Brady.

She is survived by her devoted sons Marvin (Dianne) and Randy (Cyndie), seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Due to COVID restrictions, a family service will be held at a future date.

Fran will be interred at Baynes Lake Cemetery.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the MS Society of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.
