Gerrit VELDMAN

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Gerrit Veldman on March 20, 2021. He was a brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.

Gerrit was born in Den-Ham Netherlands on March 28, 1933 to parents Thomas and Alberdina Veldman. He was 16 years old when he came to Canada in 1949, and later met and married Marlene, the love of his life.

Gerrit enjoyed his career as a heavy-duty diesel mechanic and was an active outdoorsman for many years. Going for a drive on the country roads of Baynes Lake, listening to his Johnny Cash, a little Keno, and being with his family and a faithful dog and cat by his side were some of his greatest pleasures.

Cherishing his memories are his children: Cynthia Veldman, Dianna (Bryan) Ewald, Gary (Erna) Veldman, Richard (Ronda) Veldman, and Mark (Paula) Veldman; 9 grandchildren: Allan and Jason Schoffer, Ryan (Shannon) Ewald and Trent (Megan) Ewald, Lori (Joshua) Scholpp and Gary (Roxanne) Veldman, Richann (Steve) Veldman-Schel, and Gemma and Serafina Veldman, and 8 great grandchildren: Brooklyn Forsythe, Damien and Dominick Ewald, Eric, Landon and Ryder Scholpp, and Benjamin and Kourtney Veldman. Gerrit will also be missed by his siblings Grietje (Paul) Rudachuk, Janna (Paul) Young, John (Nipah) Veldman, his sister-in-law Doris Veldman and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Derk Veldman.
