Obituary of Giuseppe Sacino

It is with profound sadness that the family of Giuseppe Sacino announces his peaceful passing on Thursday, January 2, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Giuseppe or Joe, as he was known was born on July 6, 1932 in Ruvo Del Monte, Potenza, Italy. He left Italy aboard the SS Vulcania ship on January 2, 1954 and arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia some 8 days later. After arriving in Cranbrook, Joe worked many odd jobs until he got a position with the City of Cranbrook where he worked hard for 37 years. In 1963, after he secured employment and built his first home, Joe returned to Italy and there he met and married the love of his life Antonietta and later that year they settled in Cranbrook and raised two children.
Joe loved his family more than life itself and he worked hard to support them all. He was a long-time member of the Colombo Lodge heavily involved in its construction and spent many hours working, bartending and playing bocci. He loved the outdoors and had a passion for hunting, fishing, bocci, gardening, wine and sausage making, soccer, hockey, travelling, music, picnics and spending time with family and friends. He had a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face and loved to joke around with those that came to visit.
Exactly 66 years to the day he left Italy to build a better life, he left his family on earth to find a better place in Heaven. Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 56 years Antonietta; his son Don, (Sandra Auld), his daughter Rosetta Bernava (Luigi) of Revelstoke and grandsons, Robert of Revelstoke and Adrian of Vancouver. Joe’s siblings, Vince (Irma) Sacino, of Cranbrook, Carmela (Rocco) Briuolo, of Qualicum Beach, B.C., Armando (Anna) Sacino of Luini, Italy, brother-in-law Mike Graziano of Cranbrook and many nieces and nephews throughout Canada and Italy and Switzerland. Joe was predeceased by his sister Rosa Graziano (2017) his father Donato Sacino (1986) his nephew Donato Graziano (1978) his mother Filomena Suozzi (1966) and a brother Gerardo Sacino (1953).
Rosary and Prayers for Joe will be held at Christ the Servant Parish Cranbrook on Thursday January 9th at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 10th at 11:00 am at Christ The Servant Parish Cranbrook with entombment to follow at Westlawn Mausoleum. All are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
