Obituary of Linda Rose Benson

Linda Rose Benson

September 25, 1963 – August 12, 2021

It is with profound sadness that we must announce the passing of Linda Benson.

Linda was born in Vegreville, Alberta. A small town just east of Edmonton. At the age of 11, her parents moved the family to Kelowna.

Linda always aspired to be a Nurse, after graduation from Kelowna Secondary School, she went and took her nursing program at Selkirk College. Once graduated, she moved to Cranbrook to start her career in nursing.  Linda worked in many different departments, taking whatever shifts that became available until she finally got a full-time position. Along the journey, she met many co-workers and patients, where she always left them with a smile and a memory.

Linda soon met Westy and was married in 1991. They had two boys shortly after, Jeremy (1992) and Justin (1994). They spent every spare moment in the outdoors hunting, fishing, camping, and being on the trapline. Linda loved to go to the cabin. Later, she often just enjoyed laying out in the sun on her reclining chair with a good “Elizabeth Hoyt Book” while cooking her famous stew.

Linda also loved to go to social events where she would do her different accents, dance up a storm, and always leave everybody laughing. She would also continuously look forward to the holidays. Linda would sometimes make and often wear different outfits, decorate the entire house, and usually prepare a full feast for all her guests. Linda was a social butterfly, always kind, helpful, supportive, and funny. She left you with a smile and a fond memory.

Linda loved her family and friends very much. It’s so obvious from all the replies and condolences received, that Linda touched a lot of hearts. Her final wish came true during her final journey with cancer, which was to help and share in Justin and Paige’s wedding.

Peacefully surrounded by her family, Linda passed away August 12, 2021. We all loved you Linda and look forward to one day partying with you again.

She leaves behind her husband Westy, her son Jeremy (Madeleine), son Justin (Paige) her dogs Moose & Bently, Debbie & Larry Mackenzie, Bernie & Garry Evans, Patsy & Warren Viita, Don Benson, Bruce & Mary-Anne Benson, Lori & Alex Smutney, Tim Benson & Erik Fisher along with many many other family members and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, Oncology and Ambulatory Care units for their care and compassion.
