Obituary of Marcella Murdoch

October 4, 1930 ~ October 26, 2019

We are saddened to announce the passing of our mother, Marcella Murdoch on October 26, 2019.  She passed away peacefully at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital at the age of 89.

Marcella was born in Donnelly, AB and attended school at various places throughout northern Alberta.  She completed High School in Dawson Creek, B.C. and then attended Notre Dame Business School.

After graduation, her first job brought to her Cranbrook, B.C. working at St. Eugene Hospital.  During that time, she met and married her husband Bob Murdoch.  They went on to have three children and enjoyed 52 years of marriage before Bob’s passing in 2005.

Marcella bought Helen’s Confectionery (across from Mount Baker Secondary School) in 1972 and it soon became the favourite hangout for both students and teachers alike. Marcella was known for her patience, humour and sincere enjoyment she felt for all the teenagers she dealt with each and every day.  Marcella and Bob attended countless graduation ceremonies over the years and were honoured by the high school on many occasions.

When Marcella retired from Helen’s Confectionery, she spent the next 30+ years donating her free time to the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop.  She enjoyed playing golf with her friends and her and Bob travelled extensively to places such as Alaska, Hawaii, Fiji, Chicago, Key West, Jamaica, Australia and New Zealand.

Marcella is survived by her three children Tom Murdoch (Ruth), Joan Walkley (Tom), Gerry Murdoch (Bev),
