Obituary of Newton Dean

Newt is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce; his sons Terry (Esther), Keith (Gail); grandchildren Nikolaus (Karly), Nolla (Theo), Christie (Christie’s children Veronica and Jeanette), and Paul; and by his niece, Avis. He is preceded in death by his parents, Myra and William and siblings Viola, Wesley, Bruce, Beulah and his niece Jane.
Newt was born May 18th, 1932 in Dean County, Nova Scotia to Myra and William Dean. Following his time out East, Newt moved West to Milk River, Alberta in 1952 where he worked on a farm. From Milk River, Newt moved further West to Cranbrook, where he met his wife, Joyce and started their family in the late 50s. During his time in the Kootenay’s Newt worked in logging, with the Regional District of East Kootenay, and in mining with Cominco (Kimberley, B.C.) where he later retired at the age of 60.
Newt enjoyed animals, auctions, fishing, food, travel, rodeo, hockey, his family, and all social activities!
A celebration of life will be on Saturday, January 11th, 2020 at McPherson’s Funeral Services at 2:00 pm, with a reception at the Scandinavian Hall in Cranbrook to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Newt’s life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any local organization of your choosing.
