Blue Rodeo coming to WFP

One of Canada’s most beloved musical acts will be appearing in Cranbrook in the new year.

Blue Rodeo is confirmed to appear at Western Financial Place on Jan. 23.

Blue Rodeo TryIn the mid-80’s, Blue Rodeo was the hottest band on the Toronto club circuit and there was no reason not to believe that their success wouldn’t continue to grow. Only a few months later, after the album’s initial single flopped, the band was told their future with the label was bleak. And then ‘Try’ was released.

MuchMusic took a chance and put the video into heavy rotation. Radio soon followed their lead and embraced the song, setting Blue Rodeo on a remarkable career path that has led to over four million records sold, multiple JUNO Awards, world-wide tours, an induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and a Star on the Walk of Fame.

In the ensuing years, the band has survived a number of changes but with the songwriting and voices of Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor at its heart, Blue Rodeo has become one of this country’s most successful bands – both critically and commercially – all the while influencing the evolving sound of Canadian music.

In 2014 Blue Rodeo hit the road and showcased their ‘In Our Nature’ album with a lengthy tour across the country featuring two sets and almost three hours of music.

Fans and critics alike were astounded by the muscle and passion the band continues to possess 27 years after the release of their debut, Outskirts, in 1987.

In the beginning critics scrambled to describe Blue Rodeo’s sound, comparing them to everyone from the Flying Burrito Brothers to the Eagles and the Beatles. Today, Blue Rodeo is compared to no one. They are the standard to which other bands are now compared.

Ever-evolving, it is a testament to Blue Rodeo’s creativity that the band can endure a lifetime of challenges and continue to make music that all Canadians can call their own.

Blue Rodeo is: Jim Cuddy (vocals/guitar), Greg Keelor (vocals/guitar), Bazil Donovan (bass), Glenn Milchem (drums/vocals), Bob Egan (guitar/pedal steel, mandolin), Mike Boguski (keyboards), Colin Cripps (guitar/vocals).

The concert is being brought to town by The Drive B-104. Tickets go on sale Oct. 16.
