Chamber hosts successful AGM

FCC AGM 2It was a full room Thursday morning (April 21) for the Fernie Chamber of Commerce annual general meeting at the Best Western Plus Fernie Mountain Lodge.

The chamber reviewed the annual report, approved financials, and elected the board directors. The meeting business was followed by a Business Boot Camp preview designed to help strengthen tools of business owners.

PrintIt has been an exciting year for the chamber with the launch of many new successful initiatives. Mayor Mary Giuliano and Breakfast Sponsor Jeremiah Pauw of Super 8 Fernie both mentioned the success of the Fernie Ambassador Program and its importance to businesses and tourism in our community. Speakers at the event also made reference to the fun networking Banter, Business, and Beer events that started in 2015.

There were six names put forward by the nominating committee this year including incumbents Vanessa Croome, Tammy Ogden, Ryan Frazer and Geof Hare. The two new candidates were Derick Berry and Mel Mackay. There were no nominations from the floor and the six candidates won by acclamation. The newly elected directors join Sheila Byers, Graeme Nunn, Anita Palmer, Alicia Clarke, Todd Fyfe, and Paul Arcoite to form a 12-member board.

Board president Sheila Byers stated, “we are excited to have a board of engaged business owners who support the chamber mission to strengthen commerce in Fernie. Our two new members add to the diversity of business representation. This representation will help the Chamber advocate for all business.”

It was a successful AGM filled with excitement and enthusiasm for the business opportunities in Fernie.

The Fernie Chamber of Commerce represents over 250 business in Fernie and the Elk Valley. Its mission is to strengthen commerce in the Fernie area and is guided by principles of membership, integrity, best- practices, business excellence, and non-partisanship. The Fernie Chamber of Commerce is ‘The Voice of Business in Fernie.’
