A Place at the Table

At Christ Church Anglican the children lead the way. Each year before Christmas the Christ Church Anglican Sunday School Children choose a project to raise funds for and donate to. In 2010 they raised over 8 thousand dollars for bedding for the Homeless Shelter to be built on The Salvation Army site.

This past year’s Christmas project was titled ‘A Place at the Table’ and they again chose the Homeless Shelter to be their project.  They raised funds for the equipment for the cafeteria, plates, cutlery, kitchen wares and so forth. The Sunday school children were pleased to present the cheque for $7,879.39 to Captain Green of The Salvation Army. This brings their donation to over $15,000. Captain Green commended the children, and noted the great sense of community that they have.

Funds are being held by the Cranbrook and District Community Foundation on behalf of the East Kootenay (Cranbrook) Homeless Shelter Coalition.

Foundation President Neil Cook stated; “We have been delighted with the response from the Sunday School. These children feel they can make a difference in the world and they do! The Homeless Shelter is not something that happens overnight. It requires community support and the Coalition has been gratified to see support from so many individuals, groups and even from surrounding communities.”
