A powwow performance celebration for all ages!

Powwow dance, hoop dance and Métis jigging are beautiful expressions of Indigenous Peoples’ rich history and culture. Translated from Cree to mean “to dance” and “to be in movement”, Nimihitowin! (Knee-me-heat-toe-in) will mesmerize audiences with dramatic dancing, spectacular regalia and the subtle beauty of Indigenous flute songs. Insightful commentary about each dance will also enhance the performance as the audiences get the chance to celebrate this rich, cultural treasure with the Cree, Blackfoot and Métis dancers of Nimihitowin!.

We are excited to welcome Eagle Spirit Dancers and Laird Elementary students to kick off our evening performance. These local dancers have had an opportunity to work with acclaimed Calgary-based Cree musician, contemporary dancer, and choreographer Jessica McMann, to develop their own hoop dance routines. They have worked hard and are excited to perform for the greater community at this special event.
