Three RDEK directors acclaimed

Area A Director Mike Sosnowski

Voters in three of the six Electoral Areas in the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) will be able to skip the polls on Oct. 20.

Electoral Area Director Mike Sosnowski, Electoral Area B Director Stan Doehle and Electoral Area C Director (and current board chair) Rob Gay will all return to the board table in November unopposed as per RDEK chief election officer Shannon Moskal’s declaration of candidates last night.

Two incumbent directors face election battles in Electoral Area E and G.

Three-term Area G Director Gerry Wilkie is being challenged by Stephanie Stevens and two-term Area E Director Jane Walter is being challenged by two Wasa residents: Nowell Berg and Jack Walkley.

Electoral Area B Director Stan Doehle

Electoral Area F will have a new director for the first time in three electoral terms as Wendy Booth is stepping aside to focus on a run at a federal seat in Kootenay-Columbia for the Conservative Party.

Three candidates, all from Fairmont Hot Springs, are vying for her seat: Dawn Chabot Attorp, Susan Clovechok and Tom Symington.

Two candidates are running for School District No. 5 school board of trustees for Area 4: Krista Damstrom and Randy Reay, both from Jaffray.

And in School District No. 6, Canal Flats’ Amber Byklum (Area 4) and Radium Hot Springs’ Jane Thurgood Sagal (Area 5) are acclaimed.
