Two weeks ago, under a bright blue sky a full slate of 144 golfers hit the links at the annual Fairmont Lions Coy’s Golf Fun Day.

The tournament, now in its 26th year, is one of the more popular golf events in the Fairmont area and its charitable purpose has made a difference to many charities over the years.

This year’s event was no exception with the Fairmont & District Lions Club making two exceptional gifts. The first was a $5,000 donation to the Family Resource Centre in Invermere and the second a $4,000 gift to East Kootenay Foundation for Health (EKFH).

The EKFH donation is being directed to the regional Diabetes Wellness Center for the purchase of an IPro monitor and sensor. IPro evaluations use continuous glucose monitoring and records glucose levels 24 hours a day for three days and provide healthcare providers with insights into how diet, medication and daily activities affect glucose levels.

Interior Health’s Diabetes Wellness Programs run throughout the East Kootenay. Thanks to the efforts of the Lions Club, the sponsors who supported the tournament and those who participated in the event there is additional support for people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
