The BC Coroner Services and Golden RCMP are investigating a fatality avalanche that occurred yesterday (Dec. 20) near Golden.

At about 2:30 p.m., Golden RCMP received a report from Kicking Horse Mountain Resort of an out of bounds avalanche, which had occurred beyond the boundary of the ski resort.

One male was reported as missing by a fellow snow boarder. Police activated the Provincial Emergency Plan immediately and Golden Search and Rescue responded.

A 29-year-old male from Alberta was located in the avalanche debris and transported to Golden Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
