You will note from many of the incidents we attend to, we are in the parenting business at times.

No assault

At 4:20 a.m. on May 16, Columbia Valley RCMP received a call of a possible domestic dispute in the 800 block of 13th Street. An adult male and female were found arguing; both intoxicated. No assault had taken place.

Liquor offence

A 43-year-old male from Invermere was arrested in the 1500 block on 13th Avenue for breach of undertaking by consuming liquor and making contact with a person he was to have no contact with.

Kids playing chicken with trains at Columere Park

At 11:36 p.m. on May 16, police received a complaint from CP Rail of youths in Columere Park playing chicken with the trains passing by. Police attended and youths became aware police were in the area and walked away. Confidence is high that parents will take control once one of the kids is eventually killed.

Large party dispersed at Terra Vista

At 3:30 a.m. May 17, police responded to a disturbance on Terra Vista Road in Windermere. It was a call from security that approximately 200 individuals near the lake were causing a problem with noise. Officers attended and dispersed the party.

Calgarian charged with assault

At 3:45 a.m. on May 17, Columbia Valley Detachment investigated a complaint of assault of two males near Ya Ko Naki Resort. A license plate was provided associated to the suspect. A 23-year-old male from Calgary was arrested and charged with assault. The victim was taken to the hospital to be assessed. The 23-year-old male will be appearing in Invermere Provincial court August 5.

Drunk doorknocker gets night in hoosegow

At 4:15 a.m. on May 17, a 22-year-old male from Calgary was arrested at Indian Beach Estates for drunk in public and lodged in cells for the night. The male was knocking on doors in the area.

Homeowner calls police on own party

At 11:12 p.m. on May 17, detachment members attended to a large party complaint in the 4900 block of Timbermont Place in Windermere. Police observed about 200 people at the residence, on the property and street; the majority being under aged drinkers.

The owner of the residence, a 53-year-old male, called for police assistance.  Police dispersed the crowd requesting they depart the area. Police requested the owner take responsibility and clean up the area for the neighbors. Multiple complaints were received from other owners in the area.

I also suggest going to each house in the area and apologize for the disturbance. We appreciate the call to attend and assist, but would rather you police your own party or call us earlier.

Stubborn group bolted before police arrived

At 1:51 a.m. on May 18, detachment members called to assist the manager at Far Side Pub after a group of males refused to depart the area. The males had departed by the time police arrived.

Breach of conditions with booze

Police attended the 200 block of Kootenay #3 Road May 18 and charged an adult male with breach of conditions when found that he had consumed alcohol.  Male was lodged in cells and released when sober.

Police arrival results in cooperation

At 11 p.m. on May 18, police responded to Indian Beach Resort to assist security with a party of approximately 40 individuals who were not cooperating. They cooperated when police arrived.

Rookie drinker makes fool of self in ditch

At 12:30 a.m. on May 19, while on patrol on Highway 93/93 near Windermere a male was located falling down into the ditch. The male was found to be highly intoxicated and unable to care for himself. The 18-year-old male from Calgary was arrested for drunk in public and lodged in cells for the night.

Resort party draws police

At 1:30 a.m. on May 19, police attended to a noisy party complaint at Akisq’nuk Resort. A group of partygoers refused to co-operate with the security staff.  Police located the owner and advised them to have the group leave the area.

Reminder

The Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment open house is Thursday, May 21 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Come down to the detachment to visit with members, have a tour and tuck into some beef on a bun courtesy Lake Windermere District Lions Club.

Left ear, numbers on the inside!

For a city slicker I had the opportunity of a lifetime this weekend when I attended the McKersie farm to help do some branding, castration, inoculation and tagging.

Ok, I did the tagging for the most part. You can only expect so much from a city slicker. I started as an amateur, tagging the wrong ear and placing the numbered tags on the outside of the ear until Brian gave me a brief cattle lesson, ”left ear, numbers on the inside.”  From then on, for approximately 200 calves, on the approach of each calf on the ground the real cowboys could hear quite loudly as I approached the calf, “Left ear, numbers on the inside.”

At the end of the day I earned my tagging license. So, if your son or daughter is looking to pierce their ears at a healthy cost, I’ll do it for free. If you want to learn about teamwork, go to one of these branding/castration/tagging workshops.  Police story here; RCMP has to go back to hiring more farm boys. I enjoyed the experience, education, and the after feast. I did not fall for the Prairie oysters. Next year, pulling one calf out of the crowd. Just one. Then, strike that off my bucket list.
