Fair warning
As a result of complaints received in the Radium Hot Springs area, Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment members will be paying some attention to the speed limit on the Radium Mile Hill, as well as speeds along the hotel/motel strip going into the park. It has been expressed that some of the large semi trucks are exceeding the speed by a large margin. Fair warning.
Drunk in public
While making patrols at 11:40 p.m. on Feb. 26, officers came upon a male lying on the ground near 7A and 15th Street. The male was found to be highly intoxicated and unable to provide the police with information. The 38-year-old male from Invermere was lodged in cells and released in the morning with a ticket for being drunk in public.
Vehicle towed
At 2:40 a.m. on Feb. 28, an unoccupied 2002 Ford Focus with Manitoba plates was observed parked in the town area on the street. Checks revealed the vehicle had inactive insurance. The vehicle was towed.
Vehicle vandalism
At 11 a.m. on Feb. 28 the detachment received a complaint of vandalism to a company truck belonging to Lordco Auto. Driver side tires were slashed.
Breaches result in arrest
A complaint was received Feb. 28 of an intoxicated 27-year-old male from Edgewater refusing to leave a residence. The male is well known to police as a result of a rash of recent breaches of his condition to abstain from alcohol. The male has been released in the past for breaches. He is presently before the courts on new charges and due to the number of breaches he was arrested and held in custody. As a result of the arrest on Feb. 28 he was charged with resisting arrest. The male is to appear in Invermere Provincial court March 5.
Truck vandalized
At 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 28, the detachment received a complaint of vandalism to a 2015 GMC pickup parked in the 700 block of 12th Street. The vehicle was scratched numerous times by a rock that was found near the truck.
Assault and assaulted
Columbia Valley Detachment are investigating two separate assault complaints that occurred at Bud’s Bar at 12:08 a.m. on March 1.
In the first complaint, a 23-year-old male from Invermere, found to be intoxicated, complained of being assaulted. A 33-year-old suspect was identified. The injured male received a head injury and was taken to Invermere & District Hospital. Due to his state of intoxication and injury he was in no condition to provide police with further information. Later in the evening, the 33-year-old suspect identified in the first altercation complained that he was assaulted. Both investigations are continuing.
Ticket quota?
Let’s clear this, myth or fact; is there such a thing as ticket quota? Drum roll, drrrrrrrrrrrrrr: yes.
Is there pressure from above to meet the quota or face the consequences? drrrrrrrrrrrrrr:: yes.
Many of you are probably saying to yourself, I knew it. I have been informed, actually threatened, that this Saturday I am to unload four ticket books on the good citizens of the valley.
If I don’t meet this quota, Leo Kienitz and Ray Brydon have threatened to banish me from the Lake Windermere Lions Club. I will be stripped of my yellow vest, yellow t-shirt and name badge.
Need your help to meet my quota. Make a special trip to Home Hardware Saturday between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Bev says no need to purchase anything at Home Hardware as she is still ticked at Al’s costly “put my foot down advice.”
