This past week, October 14 through October 20, Columbia Valley RCMP responded to 42 calls for service. The following are some of the more notable files to which our officers responded.
Hewitt Road crash under investigation
On Tuesday, October 15, at about 2:30 a.m., police were called to a single vehicle collision on Hewitt Road in Edgewater. Police discovered a flat deck pickup had left the roadway, struck a power pole and ended up on its roof. There were no occupants at the scene. After further investigation, officers located two individuals at a nearby residence who were believed to be associated to the truck. Both individuals were intoxicated and denied being involved in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
Driver injured in crash near Kootenay Crossing
On Tuesday, October 15, at 10 p.m., Columbia Valley RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision near Kootenay Crossing in Kootenay National Park. A Hyundai Sonata was located in the eastbound ditch with all airbags deployed. There were no occupants at the scene. Shortly after arriving, police were notified by one of the occupants that there were five people in the car and they had all gone to the hospital with the driver to be checked out. Police attended the hospital and spoke to the driver who indicated he went into the ditch after swerving to avoid hitting a deer.
Failure to stop for school bus caught on camera
On Wednesday, October 16, the Rocky Mountain School District reported a small dark coloured pickup truck failed to stop for a school bus that had its red lights and stop sign activated on Highway 93/95 at Capilo Way in Invermere. Images from the school bus camera system were turned over to police. The registered owner of the pickup will be served a violation ticket for failing to stop for a school bus which carries a $368 fine and three demerit points.
Man arrested for causing a disturbance
On Friday, October 18, at about 12 a.m., police were called to Edgewater to assist with removing an intoxicated male who was becoming aggressive and refusing to leave a residence. Police located the male standing outside the residence and arrested him for causing a disturbance. The male was held in cells until sober.
Theft at construction site
On Saturday, October 19, a theft from a construction site on Highway 93 in Kootenay National Park was reported to Columbia Valley RCMP. The theft occurred sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning. Stolen were various power tools. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Columbia Valley RCMP.
90-day Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition in Invermere
On Sunday, October 20, at about 1 a.m., an officer stopped a Toyota Tundra on 14th Street in Invermere after observing the vehicle fail to maintain its lane. The driver admitted to consuming a beer about an hour prior to driving. The driver complied with a roadside breath demand and blew two “fails.” The driver received a 90-day Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition and her vehicle was impounded.
