Right to remain silent

A right every person has under the Charter is the right to remain silent but often, far too often, this right is ignored by husbands.

Phase II of house renovations is almost complete and while minding my own business Bev approached me with a sheet of paint colors for the door, asking for my opinion. I took the safest option and told her whatever she is happy with is ok by me.

You know the saying – ā€œhappy wife, bigger boat.ā€ Not being happy with that response she strokes my ego stating that my opinion is highly valued and that I have some input with the renovations. She actually said this and kept a straight face.

Iā€™m thinking that if I have input in the renovations, she is going to want input into the boat so I insist that whatever she wants I want. Not happy, she insists on my choice of colour. So I pick a light blue. This is where the right to remain silent should have been invoked. Her response, ā€œwhat about the darker blue, why donā€™t you like that?ā€

Obviously I guessed wrong. I have another look at the colors and come back with, ā€œI didnā€™t notice that color; youā€™re right that blue is much better.ā€

She comes back with, ā€œYou being honest or just trying to get rid of me?ā€ She wanted honesty so I told her I was doing my best to get rid of her.
