Grey Cup joining grand opening festivities

Invermere is set to launch the 2015 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships with a Parade and Opening Ceremonies this upcoming Saturday, February 28, from 5-7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend, come celebrate this unique and high level world class event!

The parade runs down 7th Avenue with Opening Ceremonies taking place in front of the Royal Canadian Legion.

Ceremonies will feature the Stampede Marching Band, RCMP, local Special Olympics athletes, Invermere Fire-Rescue, members of the Calgary Stampeders and the Grey Cup.

This is the first time an IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships will be held in North America, the biggest gathering of skiers since Sochi 2014 and is set to feature 115 elite athletes from 24 countries, including some of the biggest names in para-sport.

Ski race viewing is open to the public, and will be held at Panorama Mountain Resort on March 4, 5, 7, 8 and 10. The event concludes Tuesday, March 10 at the ski hill.

The Canadian Para-Alpine Team is focused on a strong showing with potential for several podiums at the 2015 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships. Canada has a ski team full of strength, focus and past success. Canadian athletes to watch are: Matt Hallat, Kimberly Joines, Mac Marcoux, Braydon Luscombe, Kurt Oatway and Kirk Schornstein.
