Joint Presidents announced for 55+ BC Games
Sandy Zeznik of Cranbrook and Jaret Thompson of Kimberley have graciously accepted the roles of joint presidents of the upcoming 2018 Kimberley –Cranbrook 55+ BC Games, to be held September 11 – 15, 2018.
Sandy Zeznik is the current president of the Cranbrook Rotary Club and also the manager of the Abreast in the Rockies Dragon Boat team, while volunteering with a number of community organizations and boards.
“I see the 55+ Games in Kimberley and Cranbrook as a great opportunity for our East Kootenay region and for all our citizens Zeznik said. “Our communities are known for their ability to volunteer and make things happen. With this support, I’m sure our strong group of directors will lead us to make this event a huge success.”
Jaret Thompson is a member of the Kimberley Rotary Club, a member of the BCPSEA – Government Advisory Board and is a trustee and past Chair of the School District No. 60 – Peace River North Board of Education.
“Thanks to the hard work of the team who put together the successful bid to host the 2018 BC 55+ Games,” said Thompson. “I was honoured to be asked to work with all the people who will be involved in these Games and we are busy gathering a great group that will become the core team to get the ball rolling on preparations for the Games. I am excited that we will have the opportunity to showcase our beautiful area of B.C.”
Over the next months, planning for the Kimberley-Cranbrook Games will involve both Thompson and Zeznik working with many other individuals serving as directors on the local host society to begin building their volunteers teams.
The official announcement of the successful joint bid of Kimberley-Cranbrook was made by the Province through the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development in the fall of 2015.
“These games are a great example of how Kimberley and Cranbrook are working together to provide benefits to the region that otherwise would not be possible,” said City of Kimberley Mayor Don McCormick. “Athletes and their families who have never been to this area will experience what we have and undoubtedly return as visitors again.”
“Thank you to Sandy and Jaret for stepping up to take on the responsibility of this role,” said City of Cranbrook Mayor Lee Pratt. “I am confident that there will also be a large number of volunteers willing to help them. We are looking forward to a very successful event in September 2018 and welcoming the 3500 plus athletes and others to our wonderful area.”
“The BC Seniors Games Society congratulates both Jaret Thompson of Kimberley and Sandy Zeznik of Cranbrook on their new roles as joint presidents of the 2018 Kimberley-Cranbrook 55+ BC Games which will be held September 11th – 15th, 2018,” said Cindy Simpson, Interim President, BC Senior Games Society (BCSGS). “Having two communities planning, preparing and running the Games will ensure a wonderful set of games which will be beneficially to the citizens of both Kimberley and Cranbrook and to our 55+ membership as well.”
“We are looking forward to working with Jaret, Sandy and the team they will be putting together to create a fantastic Games experience in 2018,” added Cindy Linton, Executive Director, BCSGS. “Our members are grateful for the support of the Cities of Kimberley and Cranbrook and we are all looking forward to visiting in 2018.”
Participants in the Games range in age from 55 to 90+ and represent 12 different zones across the Province. The mission of the BC Senior’s Games Society is to improve the health, lifestyle and image of BC’s 55+ populations.
