Man killed in crash with semi near Yahk
A 65-year-old man is dead following a crash yesterday near Yahk.
On May 7, at 3:44 p.m., a two-vehicle collision occurred on Highway 3/95 near Irishman Creek, near Yahk.
The collision occurred when a 65-year-old male, who was driving a blue Ford Fiesta rental car westbound on Hwy 3/95, crossed the broken yellow centerline into the eastbound lane of travel. The vehicle’s movements placed the rental car on a collision course with an eastbound semi truck and trailer.
According to eye witnesses, the driver of the semi truck moved his vehicle as far to the right as he possibly could to avoid the collision but the car still made contact with the trailer of the semi unit causing the driver to lose control before leaving the highway.
The driver of the car died at the scene. His 60-year-old wife was transported to the East Kootenay Regional Hospital by BC Ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the semi truck was not injured. Victim Services is assisting those involved in the incident.
The matter continues to be investigated by members of the East Kootenay Traffic Services Unit and the BC Coroners Service, which will release further details following its investigation.
