Seven new legislators for city

The City of Cranbrook is going to have an entirely new council serving its civic needs for the next four years following the Nov. 15 election.

Mayor Wayne Stetski was defeated by challenger Lee Pratt 3,396 votes to 2,192, while John York snagged 144 votes.

And Councillors Diana J Scott, Sharon Cross and Gerry Warner, vying for a third and second terms, respectively, were not re-elected.

Cross had 1,959 votes, Scott 1,816 votes and Warner 1,638 votes.

The losses, along with departures of multi-term Councillors Angus Davis, Denise Pallesen and Bob Whetham means Cranbrook city staff will experience the rare occasion of having to ‘train’ an entirely new set of seven legislators.

Joining Pratt on council will be: Tom Shypitka (3,191 votes); Ron Popoff (2,714 votes); Isaac Hockley (2,289 votes); Danielle Cardozo (2,219 votes); Norma Blissett (2,194 votes); and Wesly Graham (1,984 votes).

All except Graham are first-time municipal councillors. Graham previously served three terms as a Town of Creston councillor.
