Sparwood Search and Rescue was activated at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 5 to rescue a backcountry skier who had sustained minor injuries after being caught in an avalanche in the Corbin Road area approximately 25 km southeast of Sparwood.

One skier of the party of five had been buried in the avalanche and was quickly located and rescued by other members of his party, who then performed first aid and sent skiers out to call for help. After calling emergency services, the skiers came across some snowmobilers who were in the area and with their assistance were able to bring the injured man out to a waiting ambulance while SAR was on route. BC Ambulance transported the man to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
