TELUS making donations and you can choose the recipient

TELUS’ charitable giving program called Fibre for Good has rolled into Fernie. For every new subscriber of Optik TV now through November 15, TELUS will donate $25 to a local charity of the customer’s choice.

New customers will be directed to a website where they can select the charity they’d like TELUS to donate to, including the Elk Valley Hospice, Fernie District Art Council, Fernie District SAR Society, Fernie Pet Society, and Fernie Trails Alliance Association.

Over the past few months, the TELUS team has been in town installing the new fibre optic network, which connects residents and businesses directly to TELUS Fibre, enabling Internet speeds of up to 150 mpbs.

“We believe that our investment in communities is just as critical as our investment in infrastructure,” said Carly Jellis, senior regional market manager at TELUS. “Each of these local charities contribute to the health and wellness of Fernie, and we’re confident that by placing the power in the hands of the community, everyone will benefit.”

The Elk Valley Hospice is working on a project to re-open the kiosk in the lobby of the Fernie hospital, which is turning out to be more financially demanding than expected. The donation from the TELUS Fibre for Good program will help the hospice proceed with plans to improve this space, enabling the organization to reach out to more locals dealing with end of life experiences.

“It is nice to see national companies such as TELUS thinking of the smaller communities they serve.” explained Elk Valley Hospice administrator Chrisy Hill. “This initiative shows that our residents matter, and will help us make a positive difference in the lives of local families dealing with end of life.”

Each charity involved would like to ask that anyone who signs up for TELUS Optik TV takes a moment to visit the website to ensure the donation on their behalf is made. It is rare that a person can donate to a charity without having to spend their own money, so don’t let a single vote go to waste!
