Two rescued north of Elkford
Two men stranded 65-km north of Elkford were rescued yesterday (June 22).
“A successful rescue mission approximately 65-km north of Elkford was conducted via helicopter this afternoon for two individuals who were stranded since Thursday because of washed out bridges on the Elk River Forest Service Road. The individuals were in regular contact with emergency officials during this period of isolation,” reported the District of Elkford.
The district is maintaining the State of Local Emergency declared June 20. The Evacuation Alert remains in place. An Evacuation Alert means residents should remain alert to changing conditions and be prepared to leave immediately should an order be issued.
The Elk River continues to recede, but further rain may increase the flow. Residents are asked to stay away from the Elk River, Boivin Creek and to stay off the roads and trails north of town. Continued debris management will be conducted in Boivin Creek to ensure public safety.
Business owners located on Front Street and Water Street are able to access their buildings and sanitary sewer service has been restored. Please use caution when accessing your facility.
