Work will establish alternate power supply

BC Hydro is making improvements to the connection between two circuits in the Slaterville neighbourhood of Cranbrook.

A crew of five power line technicians began work on Sunday, January 24 at the intersection of 6th Street North and Slater Road to install two new poles, a new electronic re-closer and a remote switch between two circuits.

Once the work is complete, the control centre in Vancouver will be able to remotely switch customers to another source of supply during an outage. The improvements will mean fewer and shorter outages for about 3,800 customers in Cranbrook.

The work will wrap up by February 5. The improvements have been made without impacting customers and flaggers have assisted in directing traffic and keeping the public and the work area safe, BC Hydro reported.
