Bowl for Kids’ Sake is April 7

Sign-up a team for this adult-oriented, fairy tale-themed charitable bowling event

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cranbrook (BBBS) is encouraging local businesses, organizations, and individuals to register a team for their annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser, being held April 7, from 7 – 9 p.m., at Juniper Lanes in Cranbrook.

The event, which is BBBS’s largest and most important fundraiser of the year, has been revamped for 2017.

“This year we’ve decided to make it an adult-oriented event with a fun theme, free food, drinks, prizes and friendly competition – all for a great cause,” said BBBS Executive Director, Jordan MacDonald. “Every dollar raised will remain local and help match kids in our community with a mentor. Research shows that children who have been mentored have higher self-esteem, and are more likely to stay in school, succeed, give back and realize their true potential.”

The theme of the Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser is ‘Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes’. The cost to register a team is $500 per lane. Up to five players can be on a team.

“We have 16 lanes to fill and really hope to see every lane packed with big bad wolfs, paper bag princesses and maybe even a farmer in the dell,” said MacDonald. “Our goal is to raise $15,000. Players from every team are being encouraged to collect pledges and we’re securing some pretty sweet trophies and prizes, including a grand prize of five round-trip tickets courtesy Pacific Coastal Airlines for the team that collectively raises the most money.”

The tickets can be used for travelling between Cranbrook, Vancouver, Kelowna, and Victoria.

Sponsors of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cranbrook Bowl for Kids’ Sake include Teck, Denham Ford, and Pacific Coastal Airlines. Businesses interested in sponsorship opportunities, or anyone wanting to register a bowling team, can email MacDonald at [email protected], call 250-489-3111, or go to the BBBS of Cranbrook Facebook page for more info. As teams register, they will be recognized on BBBS social media sites to help build momentum and awareness of the event (if teams permit).

“We currently have a waiting list of local children wanting to be connected with a mentor,” said MacDonald. “This event will help ensure the organization has an increased ability to match children and youth with volunteers in safe, long-term mentoring relationships quicker and more effectively.”
